The issue is widely related to the prediction of the potential for a large earthquake and tsunami in the southern coast, including Bali, which has been a hot topic of conversation on social media lately. This is of course a concern for some people who live in coastal areas.
The Regional Disaster Management Agency of Badung Regency has prepared scenarios to anticipate these natural disasters.
The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of Badung Regency confirmed that Badung had an earthquake response scenario. This disaster response coordinates with a number of related Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD).
“The scenario of dealing with an earthquake in Badung Regency already has earthquake and tsunami reconstruction. In fact, in the reconstruction there is an emergency response command structure,” said Nyoman Wiranata, Thursday (1/10).
According to him, disaster response involves all lines, both in terms of human resources, heavy equipment and medical equipment. Including, an evacuation place to go to when a disaster occurs. “In disaster response, we coordinate with the OPD and will mobilize each of the capabilities of the OPD or stakeholders. Such as human resources, equipment, and medicines including evacuation places that must be addressed,” he explained.
As is known, almost all parts of Indonesia, especially the west of Sumatra, South Java, including Bali and Nusa Tenggara to the Maluku Sea, have the potential for a Megathrust earthquake that can cause a tsunami. In fact, based on the 2017 Pusgen Book map, in the southern regions of Java and Bali there are earthquake segments with varying magnitudes, namely 8.5 to 8.7.
If these segments break together, it is able to produce an earthquake with a magnitude of 9.1 on the Richter scale. An earthquake of that size can cause a tsunami as high as 20 meters along the Java coast, including Bali.
