Bali United and Persija Jakarta will be representing Indonesia at AFC Cup 2021. These results came as the PSSI Executives held its meeting to decide two teams that will represent Liga 1 in Asia equivalent to Europa League.
The Liga 1 Champion, Bali United and Persija Jakarta as the Piala Indonesia runner up will be representing Indonesia at AFC Cup next year, after PSSI held meeting with its executive comitee earlier this evening. Persija Jakarta will do the playoff to ensure their position on the competition, while Bali United already claim their seat since they were the champion of Liga 1.
The Meeting is led by PSSI director Mochammad Iriawan, in the meeting, there are few key points of discussion. One of them is to pick the Indonesia representatives to play at AFC Cup, which will be held next year. Persjia Jakarta was not the first option to accompany Bali United in the competition, PSM Makassar as the Piala Indonesia champion cannot be qualified due to its failure on the AFC license qualification.
According to PSSI official website, both Bali United and Persija Jakarta are qualified not only based on the championship status. But, both teams are also already qualified for the AFC Club Licensing.
“For Indonesia’s representatives in the 2021 AFC Cup we decided on Bali United and Persija Jakarta. Bali United because they won the 2019 Liga 1 and Persija as runners up for the 2018/2019 Indonesian Cup. These two teams also met the requirements and received professional club licenses during the AFC Club Licensing Cycle 2020. Hopefully both teams can make achievements in the AFC Cup 2021 event.” Said Mochammad Iriawan during PSSI Exco Meeting
The Qualifiying round will be held from 4 April 2021- 19 May 2021, whereas the competition round will be held from 14 May – 26 November 2021. The Location of the competition is still unknown.
