An unidentified corpse was found floating in the waters of Geger Beach, South Kuta, Sunday (6/12), at 14.00 WITA. The corpse was found in terrible condition by an angler.
The head of Basarnas Bali, Gede Darmada, explained that the corpse which had a foul odor was found by an angler named Mr Dira.” The witness (Mr Dira) was fishing, then saw a figure floating. The witness did not dare to approach because he had a strong smell,” said Darmada.
The witness tried to find residents’ help by still paying attention to the movements of the corpse so that it would not be carried away. After all this time, the witness succeeded in asking one of the residents to report the discovery of the corpse to the officer.
“After receiving the report, we immediately dispatched a team to evacuate using an RIB (rigid inflatable boat). Earlier at 15:15 local time the team departed from the KN SAR Arjuna 229 pier at Benoa Harbor to the point of discovery,” said Gede Darmada.
The rotten body was immediately evacuated by officers to be brought to Sanglah General Hospital at 16.15 pm. “We did not find an identity on the victim’s body. His condition was rotting, unrecognizable. We evacuated the victim to Sanglah General Hospital by ambulance BPBD Bali Province,” explained Darmada.
Apart from that, Darmada also expressed his appreciation to Dira who found and did not leave the body until the Basarnas team came to the scene.
“We are greatly helped by the initiative of Mr Dira who does not leave the floating corpse, because it is very helpful in the search,” Darmada concluded.
The officers who carried out the initial examination could not confirm the sex of the victim because the condition of the corpse was already severe.
