Foreign Expat Arrested By Local Police For Allegedly Stealing A Mobile Phone

An Algerian man was reported to the local police for allegedly stealing a mobile phone at a bar in Seminyak, Bali.

According to The Bali Sun, the incident took place last Saturday around 2.30 AM at La Favela, one of the local bars in Seminyak. Maidi Maheni, the 47-year-old foreign expat from Algeria was captured by local authority after being reported by a domestic tourist from Jakarta, Rachmat Winna Tripuna whose phone was missing while he was having fun at the bar with some friends.

Iptu Made Putra Yudistira, the Head of Kuta Criminal Investigation Officer said that the victim realized his cell phone was missing when he tried to retrieve it from his bag, after trying to call his phone number but received no asnwer, he reported the incident to the security guard and filed a report to Kuta Police department.

The police officers started their investigation upon receiving the report and cooperated with the security team at the bar. Through the information from the bar’s security, the officers began the search and found Maheni. He was arrested right away after the officer found Tripurna’s phone in his pocket.

The Algerian man admitted that he stole the cell phone from the victim’s bag when he had the chance. Maheni now being detained at Kuta Police department because of the incident.
