Sandiaga Uno, Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, plans to work from Bali. This is intended to accelerate Bali’s economic recovery.
Sandiaga plans to work from Bali each month for several days. For him, by working from Bali, he could directly sense the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Especially in the tourism and creative economy sectors.
He hopes he could make more reliable and effective policies by working in Bali. This action is also a part of his concern about the crisis that affects locals.
It is still unclear for how long he will be working from Bali as currently, this plan is still in consideration with his staff. Some regular discussions with local businesses will be arranged once this plan comes into action.
Tourism and creative economy contribute 80% of locals economy. During the pandemic, Bali lost most of its income due to several travel limitations. Bank of Indonesia has predicted Bali’s economic growth is contracted 8.5-9.5% in 2020.
